FAQ
who can come to the session?
what do i need to bring to my newborn session?
I ask that only people being photographed come to the sessions to limit people in and out of the studio.
I provide outfits, diaper covers, hats, bonnets, props, and headbands for newborn babies. I ask that parents bring extra formula or breastmilk if available since we will be moving baby more than usual they tend to get more hungry then normal. I highly encourage bringing a soothie pacifier to help transition from poses to keep baby sleepy. Even if they don’t take one at home they are usually able to get the hang of it during the session. I have drinks and light snacks. It can get hot in the studio so you can wear layers to be able to get more comfortable. You will need to bring outfits for significant others and baby's siblings. I have options for moms in my Client Closet.
WHO CAN BE PHOTOGRAPHED DURING THE SESSION?
I encourage immediate family members to be in the pictures, they can participate in all types of sessions. I do ask that a family member or friend take siblings to another location after their part of the session is done for the newborn sessions because it can get very hot, I can never give a timeline of when we will finish up and it may be a while. It also is good to have a quiet peaceful atmosphere when posing baby and siblings sometimes don’t have the patience to sit and wait.
how long to newborn sessions last?
WHAT AGE DO YOU PHOTOGRAPH NEWBORNS?
It depends on the baby and how sleepy they are. Prepping them before hand helps a lot to get the sleepy baby poses. Typically you can expect to be in the studio for 1.5-3hours.
I typically schedule newborns when they are 5-15 days old. I want to get them in while they are still sleepy and curly to capture that newborn look.
HOW DO I BOOK A NEWBORN SESSION WHEN I DON'T KNOW WHEN BABY WILL ARRIVE?
WHEN SHOULD I BOOK A NEWBORN SESSION?
As soon as you feel comfortable doing so, but the sooner the better. I only take on a few sessions a month since I only do photography part-time. I book on a first come first serve basis.
When you book a session, I pencil in your due date on my calendar. Once baby is born I ask that you contact me within the first 2-3 days so we can schedule a day and time that works best.
WHAT EXPERIENCE DO YOU HAVE HANDLING NEWBORNS?
WHAT COVID-19 PRACTICES DO YOU HAVE IN PLACE?
I worked on the Birth Center at Strong Memorial Hospital “catching babies” for close to 8 years. I would provide care as soon as they were born, and attend births sometimes multiple times a shift. Between that and photographing newborns for 7 years I have handled thousands of newborns and am very in tuned with what they need, and how to safely position them.
I wear a mask for all sessions. During newborn sessions both my assistant and myself wear a mask, gown and practice hand washing/sanitizing throughout the session. We will continue to do so to provide the safest environment for your baby. After a session, everything is wiped down and all linens are washed in their own load of laundry
