Why are your favorite sessions newborn sessions? I have ALWAYS loved babies. Literally from the time as far back as I can remember I loved dolls and babies. I would always been squealing with delight when we passed one in the grocery store, or at school functions. I’ve always known they are little miracles. There’s nothing more precious than a newborn baby. Being able to capture their first few days, surrounded by their family’s love is an honor, and something that is literally in my soul.

What is you favorite pose? I love when babies curl right up like they are back in the womb. There is something so magical and fascinating about a tiny human being being squished all up and inside their mom’s belly just days before we work together.

Color or B&W? This is a hot topic when it comes to my photography for me. I usually end up liking black and white better if the shadows are just right. There’s something so timeless and interesting about black and white that always draws me in.

When should I book my newborn session? I encourage you to book your session during your 2nd trimester. This gives me a heads up, even though you are a ways from your due date other people will be booking sessions as well. You want to lock in your due date to make sure it’s all set and you don’t have to worry about all newborn photographers being booked at the last minute.

What if I’m due next week or my baby just arrived and I didn’t book yet? Message me! Sometimes I have room in my schedule to squeeze in last minute bookings.

What if my baby is born early or late? If your baby is born early or late you just send me a message within the first few days to let me know. I typically try to get babies in for their newborn session when they are 14-21 days old. Preemies can come around their original due date, and babies past their due date may need to come before the 14 days old mark.

What should we bring to our session? I recommend bringing extra breastmilk or formula for baby. We do a lot of moving them around, and this can make them more hungry than they typically are at home. I love the pacifiers you get at the hospital. They work perfect even if they don’t take one from you at home. It can be the perfect tool to get them into a deep sleep. I encourage parents to bring a drink since I crank the heat you can get extra thirsty. It also is a good idea to dress in layers so if you want to cool off by taking a layer off you can. Your outfits for pictures, and that’s pretty much it.

What should I wear for newborn session? I recommend white or light and airy clothes without bright colors, flashy patterns or writing.

What should my newborn wear for their session? If you can put baby in a new white onesie size newborn and then a pajama that zips or snaps up the front it works best. The car ride typically puts them to sleep so I will carefully take off their pajamas and start with some images in their onesie. The newborn size are best since they usually are swimming in 0-3 months at first. I have a studio stocked with backdrops, outfits, headbands and bonnets that I will use for baby.

I have an older child that I want in pictures but they aren’t sure about their sibling yet, what should I do? If you can have them practice laying next to each other at home that will help. If you are trying everything and aren’t getting anywhere, try not to worry. Bring a little snack like goldfish or gummies and we can hide them near the baby and have your older child find them. We may not get the picture in your pinterest dreams, but we will get them together in some fashion.

What if my baby doesn’t sleep? It’s OK if your baby isn’t sleepy. I love to get alert poses and pictures. Usually by the end of the session after all the commotion and movement baby’s snooze for at least a few minutes. Each baby is different and I go with the flow and follow their lead.

My baby boy was circumcised is there anything I need to do? There is nothing extra you need to do. I just like to wait around 5 days after the procedure to make sure he is healed and will be comfortable being moved around more than usual.

What color nail polish should I wear? I recommend neutral, light pink, French manicure or no nail polish. I do sometimes take close ups of hands on baby so it is a good idea to have them spruced up a bit before the session.

What happens after the session? I proof galleries 2-5 days after the session. These are slightly edited images and you choose which ones you would like to be fully edited and included in your final package. I request the favorites be returned no later than 7 days after the proofs were emailed. This helps editing not get piled up. You can expect your final images 2-3 weeks after they are received.

Can I share my images on social media? Absolutely I would love that! Just remember not to alter the images and please tag me too!

Where should I print my images? I recommend mpix.com. when printing at Walmart or Walgreens the printers are not always calibrated and the colors can be VERY off.

Is there a discount if I book a maternity session too? Yes! If you book a maternity session and a newborn session you will receive 50 dollars off the newborn session.

Should my older children stay for the entire session? I require that a family member of friend bring your other children to another location for the remainder of the session after their pictures are done. The studio is hot and I try to keep it somewhat quiet to help baby sleep. It’s not fair to ask them to sit still and be quiet when they would rather explore a new place. It’s not safe to have them roaming either when we are posing baby.
Who is allowed to come to the session? I only allow 2 adults and the babys siblings into the studio. This helps keep down on traffic and germs in the studio.
Do you have someone help with posing? Yes!!! I have a trained assistant who is actually my cousin, has a background in early childhood education, and has 2 littles of her own. We work so well together, and it is so nice for parents to be able to sit back and enjoy the moment of their baby having their first photoshoot rather than helping.
What training do you have in handling newborns? I have taken multiple courses on newborn posing. I am also a registered nurse and caught newborn babies on a birth center for 8 years. I have been doing newborn photography for 8 years. I wish I started counting from the beginning of how many babies I have handled. It is most definitely in the thousands.
Can I take pictures during my session? I do allow a few pictures to be taken with phones for a behind the scenes image. I do not allow cameras with flash as it can alter my images and it can also be distracting.
Do you have wifi? I do have wifi and will share the password when you come for your session.
Will you come to my house to take pictures? Currently I only offer in studio sessions. My studio is located in LeRoy, NY. It is right off the thruway and 490.
What if someone in our immediate family is sick on or the day before our session? I ask that you let me know as soon as possible so we can schedule a new session date. I do not want to risk getting any other babies/families that will be in the studio sick. I also have small children at home and do not want to bring something home to them.
How do you clean for newborn sessions? I wash everything that touches baby with a natural detergent after each session. We wipe down the studio before and after each session. We also use hand sanitizer and wear masks for all newborn sessions. Being a nurse, keeping your baby safe and healthy is always my number 1 priority.
What session is after the newborn session? I offer sitter sessions, that are usually done around 7-8 months. We want baby to be able to sit unassisted for 10-15 seconds so we are able to get a variety of poses. These sessions are the sweetest and a very close second favorite of mine. They don’t have stranger danger yet, and there’s nothing quite like a cheesy gummy smile. I also offer cake smash sessions around baby’s first birthday. It’s such a big milestone, and one you don’t want to miss having documented. I also have formal pictures and a splash bath portion during the cake smash.
What is your studio like? My studio is like my work light and airy. I have a 16×30 shed we had brought in, and finished. I have a cozy couch to relax in, a bottle warmer, changing table, and diapers.

That’s all the questions I can think of for now! If you have any that I didn’t answer, feel free to reach out anytime!
